There’s just something comforting about the smell of banana bread baking in the oven. It takes me back to slow Sunday mornings, when I’d wake up to the warm, sweet scent wafting through the house. Honestly, banana bread is one of those recipes I’ll never get tired of making—and eating. Over the years, I’ve tweaked and fine-tuned my own go-to banana bread recipe, and I’m finally ready to share it with you.

Banana Bread Recipe

This banana bread is soft, moist, perfectly sweet (but not too sweet), and has that golden crust that cracks just a little on top when it’s baked just right. Whether you’re using up overripe bananas or just craving a slice of something homemade, this one’s a winner every single time.

What You’ll Love About This Banana Bread?

  • It’s quick and easy — no fancy equipment needed.
  • A great way to use up ripe bananas.
  • Moist and flavorful, with tons of customization options.
  • Stores well for days and freezes beautifully.

Ingredients You Need

Here’s what you’ll need to make the best banana bread:

  • 3 ripe bananas (the browner, the better!)
  • 1/3 cup melted butter (unsalted)
  • 3/4 cup sugar (you can use a bit less if you like it less sweet)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Optional (but highly recommended):

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • Handful of chocolate chips

Variations You Can Try

Want to switch it up a bit? Here are a few fun twists I’ve tried:

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Add 1/2 to 3/4 cup chocolate chips for a rich, dessert-like version.

Nutty Banana Bread

Walnuts or pecans give it a crunchy texture that pairs perfectly with the soft crumb.

Cinnamon Swirl

Mix 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of sugar, then layer half the batter, sprinkle the swirl, and top with the rest of the batter. So good!

Peanut Butter Banana Bread

Swirl in 2–3 tablespoons of peanut butter before baking. Total flavor bomb.

Storage & Freezing Tips

How to Store Banana Bread

Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or foil and keep it at room temp. It stays fresh for about 2–3 days.

Can You Freeze Banana Bread?

Absolutely! I wrap individual slices in plastic wrap and freeze them in a zip-top bag. They’re great for quick breakfasts—just thaw or pop one in the microwave.

Pro Tips for Perfect Banana Bread

  • Use super ripe bananas. Black spots = flavor gold.
  • Don’t overmix. A light hand makes for soft, fluffy bread.
  • Line your pan. For easy removal and no sticking.
  • Let it cool completely. If you slice too soon, it may crumble.

What to Serve With Banana Bread

  • A cup of hot coffee or chai in the morning.
  • A dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you’re feeling fancy.
  • Spread a little butter or nut butter on a warm slice—so satisfying.
